In memory of Paul

Paul Sweeney, a well-known builder and lover of polo established the Ash Farm Polo Arena in 1994, with his wife Lesley. The facility for Arena Polo is one of the main centres of the sport during the Winter season, in the heart of the Surrey Countryside. A member of Guards Polo Club, the small fields were his specialty, having led his team Ashfronts to three victories in the Arena Gold Cup at the RCBPC in 1998, 1999 and 2005. He was also a notable member of the HPA.

After his unexpected passing in 2009, at 48 years old, his wife and two daughters (Charlotte and Georgia) kept his legacy and spirit alive by establishing the Paul Sweeney Memorial Cup at the family's club. This year, the tournament had six teams of up to three goals participating, Thursday 25 to Sunday 28, and was supported by the Guards PC, Black Hound Polo, Hurlingham 1875 and Prisk 528.

The match was a thrilling contest, decided by a single goal, with the local team winning 12-11. The Subsidiary final was between Windmill Farm (Mimitrius Foxham, Paul Knights and Guy Verdon) and ADL Drywall Systems (Ruby Hickmett, Saskia Meadows and Charlotte Sweeney), with Windmill winning 11-8.
